Me at Borobudur, Indonesia

Me at Borobudur, Indonesia

Hello and welcome to Matt Koenig Photography.  I will assume that since you clicked on the ‘About’ button you are curious to know something about me and/or this site.  My name is Matt Koenig (you probably guessed that already by the name of the site) and I am starting to wake up to and get excited about what is possible in life.

Mission

My desire is to help people find their true self and summon up the courage to overcome whatever it may be that is holding them back from reaching their dreams.  I aim to do this by writing about my three passions: photography, world travel and living a life of servitude to others.

If you are interested in photography, world travel or in discovering more about yourself then I welcome you to subscribe.

Background

Over the years I’ve worked in restaurants in different capacities (cook, dishwasher), worked the graveyard shift doing saw mill cleanup and once worked a week for a moving company (back breaking work).  I’ve studied endangered species like the marbled murrelet and spotted owl as a wildlife biologist and more recently I’ve been working as a network analyst supporting electronic medical records (EMR).

I’ve explored the desert southwest of the US and traveled as far away as Indonesia.  Despite my love of travel I have a fear of flying.

I live with my wife Irene (we met online when she lived in Indonesia) and my two boys who are always a handful.  We currently reside in Eugene, Oregon.

This has been a great life and I have been very fortunate.  But recently I’ve felt there is much more that I can be doing with my life.  This is why I have created this website and blog.

Photography

A big part of this site will be photography.  Is there a message I would want to impart with my photos?  Well, my desire is that the images I share will get all of us to start thinking more about our planet on a deeper level.  There are many issues that we as humans need to confront, from environmental issues like global warming and pollution, to social/human rights issues like clean drinking water for everyone.

Finally

Having studied biology and worked as a biologist for several years I am familiar with the fact that everything in this world is interconnected.  We don’t live in a void.  The things I do here in Eugene Oregon matter to the world just as the things you do wherever you may be reading from matter.  So if what we do matters then I believe we have an obligation to do things that make a difference.  I hope you will join me in this journey called life.  Working together we can make a difference.
