Today I celebrated my birthday. After work I had a good meal with family, another round of cake and played some Wii games. A very nice relaxing evening which is the way I like it. Thanks to all my friends who wished me the best today. I have truly been blessed with a great family and friends. It is you who have shaped me into who I am today.
Reflections on being another year older
Today I was reflecting on adding another year (of course every day I set an new PR on consecutive days alive) and realized that I still have so many things that I want to experience and accomplish. I’ve set some immediate goals in front of me and am taking steps every day to accomplish those. These immediate steps will lead me to realizing my ultimate goal of working full time at what I am passionate about and becoming location independent.
Sometimes I look back over the years and think that I have wasted so much of my life. I’m not where I would like to be. I haven’t experienced things that I really want to experience. But I know that none of it was wasted because it is the journey that has made me who I am today. I really wouldn’t change any part of it.
I don’t really want to dwell too much on the past because I have too much going on in the future. I’ve got plans to set into motion. I’ve got dreams to make real. I’ve got experiences to live. I’ve got life and I don’t want to waste a precious second of it because when it gets right down to it, life is so short. I remember that scene in Shawshank Redemption where Morgan Freeman’s character Red says: “Get busy living, or get busy dying”. I want to stay busy living. In many respects I feel my life is just starting. Up to this point it’s just been rehearsal for the big game.
About the photo
So after the birthday dinner tonight I tried to take a photo of my son. He never seems to want to have his photo taken and tonight was no different. He quickly put his hand up to the camera and stated: “No photos please!!”
