Tonight was another night where I struggled to come up with a subject for Project 365. It’s not always easy to come up with ideas and some days I honestly just don’t feel motivated to even do it. But I’m now at day 90 and have made it this far and I’m not a quitter so I keep plugging away at it.
In situations like this the best thing to do is stop and make a sandwich. So I did and that’s when it hit me! Sliced bread piled into a mini staircase would make a cool photo. Here’s the setup:
Ten slices of premium Costco whole wheat bread stacked offset from each other into a mini bread staircase. I really wanted the bread to stand out so I placed them on the black back of a speaker box (it’s always cool to improvise and this is what the pros do anyway) and used the black side of a 5-1 reflector as the background. In order to control the light better I used a single Canon 430EXII flash with a one of a kind white copy paper snoot (just a piece of paper that I rolled into a tube and then attached to the head of the flash; it’s functional and yet still maintains that professional look). This allows me to make the light go exactly where I want it to, in this case only on the stack of delicious bread.
I really didn’t do much work on this in Photoshop except to clone out a few crumbs and sharpen the image for the web. Now it’s sandwich time! Camera settings are below.
