It’s officially summer time now that we were able to get out and do some strawberry picking. Thankfully we have a local organic strawberry field to pick at so we were able to get a flat of berries. My son took on the lead role of quality control and made sure we were only getting the finest strawberries in the entire field.
Strawberries are on the dirty dozen, a list of the top fruits and vegetables that you should always buy organic. This is because they conventional strawberries have a high concentration of pesticides. The “dirty dozen” includes:
Celery
Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Domestic blueberries
Nectarines
Sweet bell peppers
Spinach, kale and collard greens
Cherries
Potatoes
Imported grapes
Lettuce
These 12 fruits and vegetables should always be purchased organic. Avoiding conventional will reduce your exposure to pesticide residue by up to 80%. There is also another list called the clean 15. These fruits and vegetables you can safely buy in conventional form.
Onions, Avocados, Sweet corn, Pineapples, Mango, Sweet peas, Asparagus, Kiwi fruit, Cabbage, Eggplant, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Grapefruit, Sweet potatoes, Sweet onions.
Eat healthy and safe and enjoy fresh produce. Avoid non-organic varieties of the dirty dozen and safely eat the clean 15. How about you? What percentage of the produce you buy is organic?

@Rick I find organic tastes better as well and definitely local produce tastes better. We avoid all the dirty dozen produce unless it’s organic. My health is too important to take risks.
